It's getting real now
I've been in contact with the guys and we are making progress - I'd love to think that it's because of me but that would probably be overgenerous
So, it looks like we'll be bringing 3 families to the UK

Family 1 - Grandmother / Mother / Daughter

Family 2 - Mother / Son / Family Friend

Family 3 - Mother / Daughter / Daughter / Cat / Dog

2 families from the Kiev area 1 from Eastern Ukraine

I won't be sharing any names / details / photos without their permission obviously - they all have fathers / grandfathers /brothers / uncles / sons all fighting for their country left behind at home.

We should be picking up Family 3 from Warsaw on Wednesday 13th - they're currently staying in Latvia!

16 hour road trip to the Eurotunnel at Calais via Poland / Germany / Holland / Belgium and France

Once we get to England I get off the bus - they get driven onward to meet their host families.
I get a night's sleep and then back home on the train on Friday afternoon all being well.

Since I shared details of the Justgiving page I'm delighted that the money raised has risen by some £1000 - I know that some of my friends have kindly donated and I've had more promised once people see the back of me.

If you are able to contribute anything - please do so that we can help get as many people to safety as we can.

I should also say thank you to Steve, Lori and Euan at the Buffalo Farm who have afforded me the time to go and undertake this adventure and obviously my fellow delivery drivers who'll cover for me when I'm away  - Cheers Guys

3 Years On

3 years ago yesterday I dropped the Dancer and her Maw off at Warsaw International airport before driving to Hannover and then on to Calais and the UK. I'll be honest, I'd never heard of Sumy before but that's where they come from So every time I hear Sumy mentioned on the news - it registers as a real place with me BBC News - Sumy Attack This happened yesterday - a pretty salient reminder that this is still happening and to real people The Dancer and her Maw are safe and well thankfully

2 Years On

Good morning  I thought that I would do a few words of update.  This week was the 2nd Anniversary of my trip to Poland.  Lots has happened since then.  I'm still in contact with my Ukrainian families - albeit infrequently.  I still feel an connection to 'my' Ukrainian families and want to do whatever I can to help them. The Dancer now wants to be a fashion designer, is about to finish her first year at high school and turned 12 a few days ago. Her dad is now with the family having undergone major eye surgery.  He had it done in Ukraine as the NHS waiting time was long. Mum works hard. They are trying to improve their English.  The Dancer is fluent and has the usual teenage circle of friends.  The Dancer's mother went back to Ukraine to see family - elderly parents - and get a dental appointment. Crazy that it's part of the reason for taking the risk of going back to a warzone.  This appears to be a problem that Ukrainian families have. Surely...
