A plane, two trains but as yet no automobile
Well I made it
As usual before any kind of enforced deadline for waking up - early shift / work / catching an early hours flight..... I slept poorly
Went to bed at 8pm with the intention of the alarm going off at 0230 - woke up at 2230, again at midnight and yet again at 0130 - pretended to be asleep for a while then just got up shortly after 2am
Quick shower and a coffee - then drove to the park and ride at Halbeath.
Bus was on time and surprisingly busy - lots of holiday makers getting on at Ferrytoll
Already checked in so after security it was time to wait
Flight pushed back 3 minutes early and landed 15 minutes early, quickly through passport control
3 minutes after the scheduled arrival time I was on the platform waiting for the train from the airport to Krakow Central
Only 11 minutes to spare - to get the next train to my destination so a bit of a rush and took a chance to try and get on without pre-booked ticket but the conductor bloke was really helpful so let me on and said that I could buy en route.
Good to his word, my ticket for a 2 hour InterCity journey on a modern clean train cost a little more than £6
Arrived in Kielce on time and a quick 10 minute walk and I checked in to my hotel.
My colleague / friend in waiting David and the Ukrainian families are away up to the visa centre in Warsaw - hopefully to have visas confirmed and entered on passports. I've been promised that we'll go out for a meal and a beer when they get back.
Unpacked and went to explore.
City is about the same size as Perth - lots of industry on outskirts and historical centre. Main pedestrianised shopping street and large town square like many others in central Europe.
First evidence of Ukraine conflict here
I had to rush through Krakow Central station but there were obvious signs of people looking to help / deal with Ukrainians - signs and flags etc - as I said, I wasn't hanging about to take notes.
I've had a shower and a kip and now relaxing in my room waiting on their arrival.
All good so far
6pm here - been on the go for 17 hours now
More later
